Rusty Romp Tuesday Edition (Tue, July 28, 2026)

Contact Information

Jim Humphrey
jimbojrh@outlook.com

(817) 690-5521

Check the FWBA webpage for time and arrive 30 minutes early. Rides vary in distance and speed. We ride from the Benbrook Y parking lot. You can usually pick a subgroup that rides like you want to. There is always a slow 16-20 mile ride. Some other riders may go 25 or 30 or 40 miles and ride a little faster.

We meet near the restroom that is at the southwest side of the Y. So go past the Y on the west side and you’ll see the restroom at the south end of the parking lot, near the ball fields and track. No fee to park at Y. But, go around it and park near restroom.

The Corp of Engineers requires a $2 fee to enter the park or a pass. Save your receipt as one receipt works in both parks.

Effective October 29, 2023:

The Lake Benbrook US Army Corps is no longer accepting cash for entering the Park at the south gate. Credit cards are accepted as are passes. They will deny entry to anyone who can't pay by CC or who doesn't have a pass. No exceptions.

Q: What kind of supplies will SAG provide?

A: SAG will have ice, snacks (cookies, chips, crackers) & drinks (water, Gatorade, cokes, V8). They will also have a bike pump and supplies for fixing flats and minor mechanical issues.

Q: Do I have to ride the entire ride?

A: No! Not only can you coordinate with SAG to be dropped off/picked up, but you can also pick & choose which days you’d like to ride. Bonus: if you’re not riding one day, we’d always welcome more help with SAG!

Q: Can I share a room with someone?

Q: Do you need help with SAG?

A: Always! If your significant other is coming but not riding, this is a great way to include them in the fun. Ways to help include prepping snacks, icing drinks, serving lunch on Day 1 and checking on riders along the route.

Q: If I want to ride all 3 days, what dates should I book a room?

A: Yes! There are stores in Fort Davis where you can purchase food and beverages.

Feel free to call, email, or text with any other questions.

Chisholm Trail Chain Gang (Tue, August 04, 2026)

This event starts at the McPherson Community Center and heads south towards Cleburne.

New Cyclists to FWBA: Welcome! The scheduled rides will typically have three main groups “A, B, C” as described below. Riders need to be able to meet pace and distance requirements for a safe enjoyable ride. At the start of the event, the ride leader will identify the pace and distance groups and give a brief daily reminder about the club ride. All riders are expected to download their preferred routes with a RWGPS compatible device and carry any water and nutritional needs for your ride. The ride will start promptly at the designated time so arrive early to get ready. Please know that construction in the area can cause changes not on the maps.

Please sign up for your preferred ride:

Group A – Fast
Drop ride, no formal ride leader.
50+ miles at 18+ mph average typically using the “CTR-51” route with a stop at RaceTrac gas station mile ~24. If a rider needs to fall back to the Group B, they can wait for them there.

Group B – Standard (Primary Group)
Drop ride, but with a Ride Leader for support.
47-51 miles at 16–17 mph average depending on conditions using the “CTR-47 RaceTrac” route. There is a rest stop at RaceTrac ~mile 24, regroup points approximately every 10 miles, optional 43-mile route variation, please talk to the ride leader. This is our main group and will support new riders if they can meet the pace and distance requirements.

FAQ’s

A: Yes! Let us know if this is something you’d be interested in, and we would be happy to put you in contact with others who are interested in the same.

Q: Is there a need for help with SAG?

A: Always! If your significant other is coming but not riding, this is a great way to include them in the fun. Ways to help include prepping snacks, icing drinks, serving lunch on Day 1 and checking on riders along the route.

Q: If I want to ride all 3 days, what dates should I book a room?

A: Check-in Thursday 10/15 and check out Sunday 10/18. Ask about late checkout.

Q: For Friday’s potluck, can I buy supplies there?

A: Leakey has a few stores to buy groceries. There are no stores in the Frio Pecan Farm community where you can purchase food and beverages. FWBA alway service grilled chicken at the Pot Luck Dinner. It was so good at our recent August 2025 special event.

Meal plans for Leakey are in the works and will be announced soon.
