Rides are on, weather permitting. We ride from the Benbrook Y parking lot. You can usually pick a subgroup that rides like you want to. There is always slower casual 14-35 mile ride. Many riders in group 2 go 36 to 50 miles and ride a little faster (15-19 mph).

We meet near the restroom that is at the southwest side of the Y. So go past the Y on the west side and you’ll see the restroom at the south end of the parking lot, near the ball fields and track. No fee to park at Y. But, go around it and park near restroom.

The Corp of Engineers requires a $2 fee to enter the park or a pass. Save your receipt as one receipt works in both parks.

Effective October 29, 2023:

The Lake Benbrook US Army Corps is no longer accepting cash for entering the Park at the south gate. Credit cards are accepted as are passes. They will deny entry to anyone who can't pay by CC or who doesn't have a pass. No exceptions.

Rides are, weather permitting, at 8 AM or 9 AM on Saturday mornings. 8 AM in the warm months and 9 AM in cold months. Check the FWBA webpage for time and arrive 30 minutes early. The rides vary in distance and speed. We ride from the Anna Dalton School parking lot down into the Britton area (southwest). You can usually pick a subgroup that rides like you want to. There is always a slow 16-mile ride (12-14 mph). Some riders may go longer distances and ride a little faster. We adhere to a No Drop policy and discourage riding alone.

There is a public restroom in the marina parking lot, near the boat ramp. You will need to stop there before going to the starting point. There is also a store in Britton (Joe’s General Store) that allows use of rest room and a rest room at Britton Park (closed in winter).

This event starts at the community center and heads out towards Cleburne. Some riders go to Joshua using the 33, 40 and 50+ mile route while the main group generally heads to the RaceTrac gas station near Main St. and US Hwy 67.

At the start of the event, the ride leader will identify the pace groups and give a brief daily reminder about the club ride. Don't forget to ask about the after-ride lunch at one of the local restaurants. It is an excellent time to relax and meet your riding partners.

Depending on who shows up, different Pace Groups develop – some as slow as 13mph or so, most 17 mph and others 19mph more. Please talk to other riders. FWBA goal is to ride together for friendship and safety.

Enjoy the quiet, beautiful rural roads of Johnson County. Routes of 30-55+ miles but typically the ride is 40-45 with a midway stop for a breakfast taco at Ell's Place in Sand Flat. This is a no-drop ride. Come join the fun.

Escape the heat and join us for 3 days of riding in West Texas July 30- August 1, 2026! Rides will be fully supported, and registrants are welcome to ride as little or as much as they desire.

Don’t delay on booking your room, as availability is limited. FWBA has a room block at Stone Village Tourist Camp – call 432-426-3941 to book yours today.

Organization Meeting is Wednesday, 7:30pm, July 29th @ Stone Village Tourist Camp, 509 State St, Fort Davis to discuss the schedule and answer questions in more detail.

All rides start at Stone Village. We will roll out at 8:00 am on Thursday, 9:00 am Friday & 8:00am Saturday. Each day we will have the opportunity to have dinner together as a group.

ROUTES

Thursday, July 30^st: 8am, we will do the famous 75 mile Davis Mountains Scenic Loop which includes 6 mountain passes. Lunch will be served roughly halfway through.

Friday, July 31^st: 9 am is a 35, 54, or 94 mile ride, mostly downhill from Fort Davis to Balmorhea State Park for a swim in the famous San Solomon Spring. The 54 adds an interesting out & back to the Boy Scout Ranch & the 94 climbs back to Ft Davis. You can arrange for you & your bike to be hauled back up to Ft Davis at our organization meeting 7:30pm Wed July 29th @ the Stone Village.

Saturday, Aug 1^st: 8am, is a 75 mile triangle ride - Fort Davis to Marfa, then Alpine, and back to Fort Davis. We will have a potluck Saturday night at Stone Village to celebrate 3 great days of riding – all are welcome.

FAQ’s

Q: What kind of supplies will SAG provide?

A: SAG will have ice, snacks (cookies, chips, crackers) & drinks (water, Gatorade, cokes, V8). They will also have a bike pump and supplies for fixing flats and minor mechanical issues.

Q: Do I have to ride the entire ride?

A: No! Not only can you coordinate with SAG to be dropped off/picked up, but you can also pick & choose which days you’d like to ride. Bonus: if you’re not riding one day, we’d always welcome more help with SAG!

Q: Can I share a room with someone?

A: Yes! Let us know if this is something you’d be interested in, and we would be happy to put you in contact with others who are interested in the same.

Q: Do you need help with SAG?

A: Always! If your significant other is coming but not riding, this is a great way to include them in the fun. Ways to help include prepping snacks, icing drinks, serving lunch on Day 1 and checking on riders along the route.

Q: If I want to ride all 3 days, what dates should I book a room?

A: Check in Wednesday 7/29 and check out Sunday 8/2.

Q: For Saturday’s potluck, can I buy supplies there?

A: Yes! There are stores in Fort Davis where you can purchase food and beverages.

The Basics

Travel out to the mountains near Leakey, Texas with its cool average October temperatures of 81/52, We will enjoy this weather viewing beautiful landscapes and cycling through amazing challenges. If it's a vacation you want, the rides are thrilling with the relaxation of stress free rural Texas.

Frio Pecan Farm (on the Frio River) will be based camp. The Pavilion commons area will be the Headquarters or the meeting place. The lodges/rental homes (some with Pools) are top notch. The activities include three epic rides Friday through Sunday. SAG is there as needed Friday and Saturday. There is a Pot Luck Dinner and always traditional gatherings at the FWBA ride leader's 5 bedroom rental home.

- 72 mile Medina & the Apple Farm hilly route (ride to Medina- most commonly rode)

- 50 mile 'Flatland Loop' through Utopia (follows above route at the beginning)

- Pot Luck Dinner (FWBA will supply the meat)

Saturday:

- Iconic 100 mile 'Twisted Sister' ride. This year we ride counter clockwise with a sandwich lunch at Hwy 41. We typically gather at the FWBA House after the ride.

- Dinner (FWBA covers the main dish) with our unique tee shirt presentation.

Sunday (Optional, unofficial)

- 46 mile ride to Utopia and back (unsupported).
